Our Technology

Modern tools. Real clarity. No clunky portals.

Working with Aequitas means a different experience from day one. Here's a quick walkthrough of the two platforms you'll actually use as a client — and why we chose them.

Financial Planning

RightCapital — your living financial plan

RightCapital is the planning platform that powers every Aequitas engagement. Instead of a 60-page binder you read once and shelve, you get an interactive plan you can open anytime — on your phone, your laptop, or together with us on a call.

Live financial plan

Your full picture — cash flow, retirement, tax projections, insurance, estate — updated in real time, not buried in a static PDF.

Transparent assumptions

Every projection shows the assumptions behind it. You can change them yourself and see the impact instantly.

One secure login

Link your accounts once. Balances, budgets, and net worth refresh automatically — on web or mobile.

Portfolio Management & Custody

Altruist — where your investments live

For clients who choose investment management, your accounts are custodied at Altruist — a modern, independent custodian built for fiduciary advisors. You get a clean dashboard, transparent reporting, and the same SIPC protections you'd expect from any major custodian.

Modern portfolio dashboard

Holdings, performance, and fees in plain English. No clunky statements, no hidden line items.

Independent custody

Your assets are held at Altruist, an independent SEC-registered custodian and member of FINRA/SIPC. We never take possession of your money.

Bank-grade security

Multi-factor authentication, encryption in transit and at rest, and 24/7 fraud monitoring on every account.

What to expect as a client

  1. 01

    Secure onboarding link

After our engagement starts, you'll get a single secure link to set up your RightCapital login and connect your accounts.

  2. 02

    Your plan, built with you

We build the first draft of your plan together on a shared screen. You'll see every assumption and approve it before anything is finalized.

  3. 03

    Ongoing access

Your plan stays live. Update a goal, run a what-if, or check progress whenever you want — no need to email and wait.

  4. 04

    Optional: investment management

If you'd like us to manage investments, we open accounts at Altruist on your behalf. You stay the legal owner; we have authority to trade and report.

Why this stack

Technology should remove friction, not add a login

Most financial planning software was built for a client who retires at 65 from one employer, files jointly with a spouse the law has always recognized, and has no unusual cash-flow events between now and then. That describes almost none of the households we work with. Ours have equity compensation vesting on a four-year cliff, a $45,000 IVF cycle two years out, a state move under consideration, and estate documents that have to work whether or not a given state respects the relationship.

So the test we apply to every platform is simple: can it model the thing that is actually true for this household, and can the client see how it got there? RightCapital passes because its tax projections, Roth conversion modeling, and equity-compensation inputs are granular enough to reflect real decisions, and because every assumption is exposed rather than buried. When we tell a couple that converting $60,000 to Roth this year costs them $14,000 in tax but saves more later, they can open the same screen and check the math.

Altruist passes for the opposite reason — it gets out of the way. Account opening is digital, fractional-share trading means a $2,000 contribution gets fully invested rather than sitting partly in cash, and the reporting shows fees as dollars rather than as a footnote. Independent custody also matters structurally: the firm that advises you should not be the firm that holds your money, and separating those two roles is one of the plainest safeguards in this industry.

What neither platform does is make decisions. Software is excellent at arithmetic and useless at judgment. It will not tell you whether to fund a second IVF cycle or max the 401(k), whether the safety premium you pay to live in a welcoming metro is worth an extra decade of work, or how to weigh a parent who may never accept your marriage against a beneficiary form. That is the part of the work we do together, and the technology exists to make those conversations faster and better informed.

A practical note on privacy: your plan contains details many LGBTQ+ clients have good reason to control — health information, family structure, the names of people who do and do not know. We keep that information inside the secure platforms rather than in email threads, we do not require you to disclose anything that is not financially relevant, and you decide what goes in the file.
